Morocco

Berber Treasures was born from a love story of Moroccan people, places, and culture. Founded in the mid-2000s by a team bridging Australia and Morocco, our purpose has always been simple: to share the soul of Morocco with travellers seeking more than just a holiday. We take you beyond the postcards and into the heart of the country—where tradition lives, stories are told, and the true beauty of Morocco is felt, tasted, and remembered.

Our story is shaped by our two founders who couldn’t be more different in their backgrounds, yet who share an unwavering love for this incredible land. One of us, Ounir,  is a Berber Moroccan, born and raised amidst Morocco’s mountains, deserts, and medinas. His life here is deeply rooted in the land, the culture, and the people, giving us a genuine, insider perspective on the magic of Morocco. The other, Georgina, is an Australian, based in Australia, who’s been travelling across Morocco for two decades, captivated by its history, spirit, and the warmth of its people.

Together, we’ve combined our unique perspectives to craft something truly special: tours that aren’t just visits, but true encounters with the soul of Morocco. With us, you’ll go beyond the surface to experience the country as it really is—rich, layered, and alive. You’ll walk the same streets as the locals, taste the spices that have defined centuries of culture, and hear stories passed down through generations

When you travel with Berber Treasures, you’re not just a visitor—

you’re embraced by the essence of Morocco, in a way that’s real, immersive, and unforgettable.

We can’t wait to share this journey with you.

Our Berber Roots and Local Partnerships

At Berber Treasures, our connection to Morocco runs far beyond the surface. Our knowledge brings together a rich heritage and insider knowledge, guiding us to curate only the most authentic and high-quality experiences. But our commitment goes deeper than that—we are deeply invested in supporting Morocco’s local communities.

Every place we recommend, from enchanting riads and storied kasbahs to serene desert camps, is handpicked with care, often through long-standing relationships with local owners and families. By partnering with Moroccan businesses, artisans, and communities, we ensure that each part of your journey reflects the true spirit of Morocco—its warmth, its hospitality, and its vibrant culture—while also giving back to those who are the heart of its heritage.

For us, it’s not just about offering an exceptional travel experience; it’s about making sure that your visit helps preserve and celebrate the local people and places that make Morocco so extraordinary.

What can you expect on our tours?

With Berber Treasures, every moment is designed to feel extraordinary. This isn’t just a tour; it’s an invitation to step into the heart of Morocco, where the landscape, people, and culture come together in a way that feels truly magical. From hidden gems to rare experiences, expect to be constantly surprised and inspired.

Morocco’s diverse landscapes are nothing short of breathtaking. From the towering peaks of the Riff and Atlas Mountain Ranges to the ever-shifting sands of Merzouga’s Erg Chebbi, where the dunes change colour with the light, our tours take you through some of the world’s most stunning scenery. The desert sands, in shades of deep red and ochre, contrasted by the vivid blue skies, lush green of the oases, fertile agricultural valleys, and mountain slopes will leave you in awe. In spring, the whole country comes alive with a brilliant display of wildflowers, adding a burst of colour to the already vibrant landscapes. And then there’s Morocco’s coastline—stretching along both the Atlantic and Mediterranean. From the dramatic cliffs and sweeping beaches of the Atlantic to the tranquil shores of the Mediterranean, you’ll experience the diverse beauty of the sea like nowhere else.

Our tours take you through some of the world’s most stunning scenery.

Morocco’s cities are living monuments to centuries of history, and their ancient medinas (old town centres) have been standing for millennia.  From Marrakesh, Rabat and Fes to Tangier, Essaouira and Taroudant, the narrow, timeworn labyrinthine streets have been shaped by generations, each leaving its mark; offering a new adventure leading to hidden treasures – elaborate souks, intricate palaces, courtyards filled with the scent of oranges, henna and freshly ground spices.

As you wander through the timeworn alleys, witness to the rise and fall of dynasties, if not civilizations, you’re walking in the footsteps of those who have lived and loved here for hundreds—perhaps thousands—of years.  You are immersed in Morocco’s timeless charm;  its heartbeat, its stories, its spirit, its soul.

Morocco’s culture is a beautiful mosaic, shaped by its Amazigh (Berber), Arabic, and Jewish roots. The Amazigh, Morocco’s indigenous people, have a rich cultural heritage that stretches back thousands of years, with each tribe having its own music, dance, and language—distinct from both Arabic and Hebrew. The Amazigh language, still spoken by millions, is a unique thread that connects the past with the present. In the 7th century, the Arab expansion brought Islam, Arabic, and new cultural practices that blended with Morocco’s existing traditions, creating a dynamic fusion of influences. The Jewish community, with its deep and ancient ties to the region, has also played a vital role in shaping Morocco’s culture, leaving a lasting imprint on art, architecture, and cuisine.

As you explore Morocco, you’ll experience these vibrant cultures in their purest forms—whether it’s the lively rhythms of Amazigh (Berber) tribal music, the melodic beauty of Arabic music, or the soulful silence of ancient Jewish quarters. The Moroccan people, with their incredible warmth and hospitality, will welcome you as family, eager to share their stories and traditions. From the bustling markets to the tranquil villages, Morocco’s diverse cultures come to life, inviting you to connect with its history and people in a way that feels both personal and unforgettable.

Morocco’s culture is as rich and diverse as its landscapes. You’ll experience the warmth of Berber traditions, the artistry of local craftsmen, and the soulful rhythm of daily life. With every stop, we immerse you in a culture that’s been shaping the country for centuries, offering moments that resonate long after your journey ends.

Morocco’s people are its true treasures. From the moment you arrive, you’ll feel the genuine hospitality and warmth of its people—welcoming you like family. Whether in the bustling souks or the quiet villages, you’ll encounter smiles and stories that make you feel like a part of Morocco’s living history.

Moroccan food is a feast for the senses. From the first bite, you’ll taste the complexity and depth of flavours that have been perfected over centuries. Picture aromatic tagines slow-cooked with tender meats and vibrant vegetables, couscous served with a medley of fresh ingredients, and pastries like pastilla that melt in your mouth. The spices—cumin, saffron, cinnamon, and coriander—are the heart of Moroccan cooking, giving each dish its distinctive warmth and character. Street food, like grilled skewers and crispy briouats, offer quick but unforgettable bites of local flavour. Whether it’s a traditional family meal or a feast shared in the desert, food is an expression of Morocco’s welcoming culture and rich heritage. It’s not just about eating—it’s about sharing, savouring, and connecting with the land and people.

Sleeping under the stars in the Sahara is an experience unlike any other. Our desert camps offer a perfect blend of adventure and comfort, where you can disconnect from the world and reconnect with nature. The silence of the desert, the warmth of the campfire, and the vastness of the night sky will stay with you forever.

Our suggested and handpicked accommodations are as enchanting as the landscapes themselves. Stay in atmospheric riads tucked in the heart of ancient medinas or storied kasbahs that echo with centuries of history. Whether it’s the intricate tilework or the peaceful courtyards, every stay is a chance to experience Morocco’s soul in the most intimate way.
