Casablanca
Begin your tour of Morocco when you arrive at Casablanca Airport and are met and welcomed to Morocco by your Berber Treasures driver at the scheduled group transfer time and transferred to your Casablanca hotel. Free time to relax from your travel to Morocco. Overnight in Casablanca.
Casablanca – Rabat
Your holidays in Morocco get underway with a morning city tour of Casablanca introducing you to this famous city’s principal sights including the impressive Hassan II Mosque. Leaving Casablanca, you head north along the Atlantic coast to your first imperial city, Rabat, the current capital of the Kingdom and a UNESCO world heritage site. During your city tour of Rabat you will explore the city’s ancient heritage visiting the historic Oudaya Kasbah, the Hassan Tower, Mohammed V Mausoleum and the medieval Necropolis of Chellah, situated in the ruins of Roman Sala Collonia. Rabat – Meknes – Volubilis – Fez
Turning inland you travel to Meknes. This UNESCO world heritage Alaouite imperial city sights include the colossal Bab el Mansour, the original gated entrance into the main entrance Moulay Ismail’s 17th century city, Heri es-Souani (granaries) and the Agdal Basin (water reservoir). Next you head to nearby ancient Volubilis, Morocco’s premier Roman site. The extensive UNESCO World heritage Roman ruins here, which are some of the best preserved in Africa including the Basilica, Thermae, Temple of Jupiter, Capitol, and Triumphal Arch, are world renowned for the many marvellous Roman mosaics found here. Continuing on you travel to Fez, a magnificent medieval imperial city regarded by many as the cultural cuisine capital of Morocco. Full-day city tour of Fez, one of Morocco’s oldest imperial cities. Fes – Ifrane (Middle Atlas Mountains) – Midelt – Eastern High Atlas Mountains – Ziz Valley & Ziz Gorge – Merzouga (Erg Chebbi)
Today your tour of Morocco travels via Ifrane, Azrou and Midelt south to Merzouga. Passing cedar and pine forests, the route from Ifrane past Azrou crosses through the Middle Atlas Mountains and is one of the most scenic routes across this mountain range. Continuing to Midelt you begin the climb into the Eastern High Atlas Mountains before descending along the road following the valley carved by the Ziz River into the fabulous Morocco desert. Take in panoramic views over the beautiful Ziz Gorge with its vast date palm groves before making your way through the vast Tafilalt Oasis area to the desert Berber village of Merzouga and Morocco’s spectacular Sahara Desert sand dunes, the beautiful Erg Chebbi dunes. Erg Chebbi: Desert Villages & Desert Camp
In the morning you explore the Erg Chebbi area learning more about the culture of the Berber people of the Morocco Sahara Desert area. Your desert adventure in Morocco tours the Merzouga oasis areas, seasonal Merzouga lake and visits a local Berber family to share a cup of delicious mint tea before returning to your kasbah. You have some free time before a night straight out of the pages of a Thousand and One Nights experiencing a night at a desert camp. In the late afternoon you are taken by 4-wheel drive vehicle to the peacefully secluded eastern section of the Erg Chebbi sand dunes where you find your desert camp, blending Berber authenticity with modern comfort. Here you meet your local Berber camel guide who will lead you on a sunset camel ride into the sand dunes to watch the sun setting over the Sahara desert*. Merzouga – Todra Gorge & Oasis – Road of a Thousand Kasbahs – Skoura
Early risers can enjoy the spectacle of the sun rising over the beautiful, vast Moroccan desert. Your tour of Morocco departs the Erg Chebbi area via the fossil area around Erfoud, some of Morocco’s rich fossil fields and quarries are found in this area. Your tour of Morocco’s desert now turns to the west toward Tingehir. Arriving to the Todra Valley you trace the path of the Todra River through the lush Todra oasis to the towering Todra Gorge. Continuing westward you make your way through the Berber town of Boumalne Dades to join the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs. Your Berber Treasures Morocco tour follows the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs through the Roses Valley to the lovely Skoura oasis area. Overnight Skoura/Ouarzazate oasis area kasbah. (Breakfast)
Skoura & Ouarzazate Oasis Villages Excursion
This morning you explore some of the lovely traditional oasis settlements of this desert region. The Ouarzazate oasis, strategically situated on the crossroads of ancient desert caravan trade routes, is considered the gateway to the Moroccan desert. Ouarzazate has long attracted attention and interest, including by a Pasha who built magnificent kasbahs here, the French who established a garrison for the French Foreign Legion here during their colonial rule period and most recently this lush oasis town’s spectacular location nestled between the High Atlas Mountains and Anti-Atlas ‘ Jbel Saghro Mountains has made it the movie making capital of Morocco. At charming Skoura oasis area you find one of the oldest kasbahs of the desert region – Kasbah Amridil – and discover tiny villages and kasbahs old and new set amongst lush date palm, almond, fig and henna groves including old kasbah homes of Berber, Jewish and Arab families. Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Tizi n’Tichka (High Atlas Mountains) – Marrakech
Before farewelling the Moroccan desert your Morocco tour takes you to the spectacular UNESCO world heritage ksar (kasbah village) of Ait Ben Haddou. Ait Ben Haddou has some of the Atlas region’s most exotic and best preserved Kasbahs and has featured in films including Game of Thrones, Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia.
