Step back in time as you travel through the four corners of Morocco on our Kingdom of Marrakech tour of Morocco. Visit medieval imperial cities, ancient Roman settlements, Barbary coast pirate ports and experience a magical night in the Morocco Sahara Desert at a desert camp on the soaring Erg Chebbi sand dunes.

This tour of Morocco starts in Casablanca and tours the historic north Atlantic coast to Tangier. Takes you to Chefchaouen – the “blue town”. Highlights the exotic trade capitals and staging posts along the trade routes of the old trans-Sahara merchant camel caravans that once travelled from Western African to Europe and the East, carrying gold, spices, salt and other exotic riches. You will explore the ancient souks and markets of Marrakech, Fez and Essaouira and follow the trade routes through mountain gorges and Morocco’s Sahara Desert passing soaring sand dunes and lush oases.

Casablanca

Your Kingdom of Marrakech tours itinerary begins when you arrive at Casablanca Airport and are welcomed to fascinating Morocco by your Berber Treasures Morocco Tours driver/guide. This afternoon your city tour of Casablanca introduces you this famous city’s principal sights including the impressive Hassan II Mosque (exterior), La Corniche and Mohammed V Square. Casablanca – Rabat – Asilah

Today your Berber Treasures Morocco tour itinerary takes you along the historic north Atlantic coast. Your first stop is the imperial city of Rabat, the capital of the Kingdom and a UNESCO world heritage site. Exploring the city’s ancient heritage, your Rabat tour takes you from the stunning Oudaya Kasbah, historic Hassan Tower, and unique Mohammed V Mausoleum, to the medieval Chellah, situated in the ruins of the ancient Roman Sala Collonia. Continue your Morocco travel you along the length of Morocco’s north Atlantic coast to the beautiful little historic port of Asilah, with its Portuguese colonial fortifications and Barbary Coast pirates past. Asilah – Tangier – Tetouan – Chefchaouen (Rif Mountains)

From the Atlantic, your Morocco tour turns to the Mediterranean coast and the ancient city of Tangier, an important port town in the days of the camel caravans. In Tangier your Moroccan travel adventure begins tracing some of the overland old camel caravan routes and towns. After an orientation tour of Tangier visiting the principal sights, you head south, travelling via the UNESCO world heritage site of Tetouan into the Rif Mountains to the beautiful blue town of Chefchaouen with its lovely old medina streets of blue washed houses. Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknes – Fez

This morning your first destination is the ancient Roman town of Volubilis. This UNESCO world heritage site is Morocco’s premier Roman site, one of the best preserved in Africa, containing many significant Roman buildings and extraordinary world renowned mosaics. Your route then travels to your Morocco holidays’ first Moroccan imperial city, UNESCO world heritage listed Meknes. Discover the wondrous sights of Meknes, including Bab el Mansour and Agdal Basin. Continue to Fez – one of the great medieval trade capitals of the world and a UNESCO world heritage site. Here you stay in one of the lovely Fez riads. Overnight in Fez riad. (Breakfast)

Fez

Delve into this magnificent medieval treasure with a full-day heritage tour of Fez, one of Morocco’s oldest imperial cities. Together with your expert local Fez travel guide your city tour of Fez focuses on the UNESCO world heritage old walled medina. Here you can see outstanding historical sites 14th century universities and mosques such as Madrasa Bou Inania and the Kairaouine Mosque, old merchant fondouks from the days of the camel caravans, ancient leather tanneries, intriguing souks and markets, the monumental Bab Dekakene, Dar el Makhzen’s (Royal Palace) original main entrance and the Mellah – the old Moroccan Jewish heritage quarter. Fes – Middle Atlas Mountains – Midelt – High Atlas Mountains – Merzouga (Erg Chebbi)

Today, your Berber Treasures Morocco tour itinerary traces the path followed by the old camel caravans, as they transported exotic riches from the Sahara Desert and West Africa to Fez, Tangier, Europe and the East. You travel to Morocco’s Middle Atlas Mountain town of Ifrane, continue south via Midelt and cross the eastern region of the High Atlas Mountains. Descending through the Mountains you follow the Ziz River through the Ziz Valley and Ziz Gorge into the Sahara Desert of Morocco as you travel to Merzouga, a small desert Berber village situated at the foot of the spectacular Erg Chebbi sand dunes. Tonight you stay in a traditional desert kasbah located at the fringe of the dunes. Overnight in Merzouga area kasbah. (Breakfast & Dinner)

Erg Chebbi: Desert Villages & Desert Camp

This morning your Kingdom of Marrakech tour itinerary focuses on the culture of the desert Berber people, including a visit of the Merzouga oasis and village area, the home territory of the Berber nomad famed “blue men”. Travelling by a 4-wheel vehicle you head to the peacefully secluded eastern section of the Erg Chebbi sand dunes where you find your desert camp, blending Berber authenticity with modern comfort. Here, you can imagine the past days of the Berber camel caravans, joining your sunset camel train ride led by your local Berber camel guide or you can choose to relax at your camp. Experience the warm hospitality of Morocco’s desert Berber culture under the stars in the heart of the Sahara in authentic comfort: Berber tents equipped with real beds and private ensuite bathrooms. Merzouga – Todra Gorge – Road of a Thousand Kasbahs – Ouarzazate

Earlier risers can watch the breathtaking sunrise over the desert landscape. Continuing your exploration of the Moroccan desert you visit the fossil area near Erfoud before your route turns westward. Following the Todra River through the scenic Todra oasis nestled at the base of the High Atlas Mountains you enter beautiful Todra Gorge. Resuming your journey, you pass through the High Atlas Berber town of Boumalne Dades to join the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs. Your Morocco travel along this Road takes you through the Roses Valley to the oasis town of Ouarzazate, strategically located on the crossroads of ancient desert camel caravan trade routes. This area is famous for its many traditional desert mud kasbahs and oasis villages set against the spectacular contrast soaring snow-capped mountains. Overnight in Ouarzazate area. (Breakfast)

Ouarzazate & Skoura

This morning you explore some of the lovely traditional oasis areas of this desert region. In the Ouarzazate oasis area you can find cane weavers cutting, drying and weaving cane into all manner of products, impressive Taourit Kasbah (exterior only). At beautiful Skoura oasis area you find one of the oldest kasbahs of the desert region – Kasbah Amridil – and discover tiny villages and kasbahs old and new set amongst lush date palm, almond, fig, pomegranate and olive groves, henna and herb gardens. Return to your accommodation for some free time. Overnight in Ouarzazate area. (Breakfast)

Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Tizi n’Tichka (High Atlas Mountains) – High Atlas Mountains

Today, your holidays in Morocco travel along old merchant camel caravan trade routes, to the spectacular UNESCO world heritage kasbah village of Ait Ben Haddou comprised of some of Morocco’s most exotic and best-preserved kasbahs. Farewelling Morocco’s desert, you travel into the soaring High Atlas Mountains via Morocco’s highest mountain pass, the Tizi n’Tichka pass (2260m), while enjoying spectacular mountain panoramas. Essaouira – Marrakech

You have some free time this morning to explore this UNESCO world heritage site at your leisure before returning inland to your Morocco tour’s final destination, the Jewel of the South – Marrakech. An imperial city and UNESCO World heritage site. Surrounded by its millennia old red walls and with the soaring High Atlas Mountains acting as a dramatic backdrop, exotic Marrakech truly is magical. In days past, the trans-Saharan camel caravans brought goods from all over the world to the exotic markets and souks of Marrakech.
